Staff

The traditional Shaolin staff is a simple wooden pole.

Possibly the most ancient martial arts weapon in the Kung Fu repertoire, the staff can be put to very effective use in the hands of a skilled practitioner.

The primary advantage to the staff is it’s sheer flexibility. Being able to offer a very extended reach alongside very good defensive benefits combined with very effective offensive benefits.

Users can deploy staff techniques at speed and the double-ended nature of the staff means that skilful use can build up into a flurry of strikes.

The staff can also be used one handed or two handed, meaning that sheer flexibility is it’s primary strength.

Spear

Spears are one of the earliest and simplest weapons on the kung fu repertoire.

However, this should not detract from their sheer effectiveness.

The long shaft of the spear allows the wielder to keep potential aggressors at a distance and offers significant defensive leverage.

With a simple adjustment in grip, the wielder can transform it into a staff-like weapon.

By gripping the middle or rear section of the shaft, one can wield the spear to parry incoming attacks or deliver swift and unexpected strikes in close quarters combat.

Halberd

A Halberd is effectively a blade attached to a spear shaft.

Halberds features a large blade and can be thrusted or swung and this grants the wielder a significant degree of freedom with their angle of attack.

The extended pole grants a good strategic advantage as it allows the wielder to keep the enemy at a distance.

Halberds were popular weapons due to their flexibility and usefulness in countering both infantry & mounted attackers.

Broadsword

The traditional Shaolin broadsword is a curved, single-edged weapon with a handle that is large enough to be gripped with both hands.

The blade is typically fabricated from strong tempered steel and it is a staple weapon of many martial arts styles.

The broadsword has a reputation for it’s speed and agility and it is designed for slashing and chopping.

Hung Kuen broadsword techniques features long, sweeping movements that are designed to maximise the force and power behind the strokes.

3 Section Staff

The three section staff consists of 3 individual wooden batons joined together with chains.

The legend is that a warrior broke their favourite staff, and, rather than abandoning it, they decided to join the broken staff back together with chains, discovering that the assembled weapon was a formidable combat tool in it’s own right.

The three section staff serves as a seamless extension of the user’s arms, enabling a diverse range of actions such as striking, flailing, blocking, choking, trapping, disarming, and whipping.

Longsword

The traditional Shaolin longsword is a straight, double-edged weapon that is long enough to be held with both hands.

It is designed for thrusting and cutting, and it’s straight shape made it particularly effective against armoured opponents.

The blade is typical made of tempered steel and is sharpened along both sides.

The longsword is a staple weapon of all martial combat styles around the world and is well-known for it’s balance and precision.
