Progression Opportunities

GRADING & EVENTS

  • No matter your level of ability, all are welcome. Wether you have never tried any martial arts before, or you already have many years of training behind you and wish to try a new style.

  • We understand every person is different and students will never be pressured into doing something they cannot do. However time can bring pleasant suprises as your abilities increase.

  • Progress is monitored with a formal grading system, with each grade being represented by a coloured belt. We believe this an excellent way of measuring a students progress, and making sure students can learn from the experience of others.

  • There are also opportunities for students to enter the National Hung Kuen UK Championships, held twice yearly in Manchester.

Grading

HUNG KUEN GRADING

Like many forms of martial art, students’ progression is recognised by awarding different coloured belts.

A student will begin as a white belt. When deemed ready, they are invited to take part in a grading, to demonstrate their technique. If successful, they are awarded their next belt.

Gradings are overseen by Master KK Ang

We aim to hold several gradings per year, though we do not expect that every student will take part each time – particularly at advanced levels where the syllabus becomes more demanding.

TOURNAMENTS

Our club is one of a network of Hung Kuen clubs throughout the UK, overseen by Master Ang Kee Kong, who first brought our style to the UK from Malaysia.

The annual tournament represents a coming-together of all the Hung Kuen UK clubs and is held each December in Manchester.

Whilst students compete against each other in all areas of Hung Kuen Kung Fu, the spirit of the competition is one of learning, inspiration and camaraderie.
